WACO — A new statewide STAAR Report Card system announced by Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath on Friday will give parents more information about their children’s standardized test scores.
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness Report Cards are already issued to parents showing them how their children scored on the standardized tests that year. However, Morath said that the previous cards had been judged confusing and did not offer enough information.
“What we’ve tried to do is modify what we have issued to parents to make it as user-friendly as possible,” Morath said during a visit to the Education Service Center Region 12 office in Waco. “We want to actually empower parents to support their children with this information.” Morath said that the revised report card will give parents more thorough, individualized student information from the STAAR tests.
